Our customer owns one of the largest hog operations in the Midwest which includes a feed mill delivering feed to over 30 facilities in 100 miles radius, breeding facilities, nursery facilities, and finishing barns.

They were using multiple software platforms, and several hand written forms, combined with multiple Excel spreadsheets to track and manage.

Challenge

We had to find a way to track and integrate delivering feed with over a dozen trucks, breeding and treatment to animals from birth to market, movement of animals between multiple facilities and summary reporting to assist managers in their daily decision making.

The UI needed to be simple and efficient as most users are hard workers, and but not tech savvy. There were an incredible amount of steps and details which needed to rethought and simplified in order to make the final process as close to possible to what the staff was use to from a manual perspective. Retraining staff on a new, sophisticate software solution was not an option.

Results

There was a classic example of first launching a simple platform which solved 80 percent of the customer's needs then slowly adding in additional functionality. Attempting to perform too many changes at once waas not an option, in doing so the customer would risk rejection from the field, and a struggle for adoption.

By releasing simple updates in multiple phases the field was able to easily adopt to the changes and appreciate how the software made their job easier. The customer was able to eliminate multiple platforms improve tracking and reporting capabilities and employee morale.
